Our Elite Squad consists of a team of talented young players who have been hand selected to receive intensive training. The squad receives around 70 sessions of coaching, which focuses on advanced skills in all aspects of the game.
It is envisaged that players from this type of squad will be well equipped to take advantage of openings in future representative. Nothing can ever be guaranteed, but the squad members are very likely to be the coveted few that achieve the highest rank of success in the future. The ambitions of these young squad members is to one day have the opportunity to play for their country and the intense level of training they receive will certainly point them in the right direction.
Our squad trains 2-3 times a week, depending on if it is on-season or off-season period and the players still remain as active members of their local teams. The training that they receive is additional to their normal team commitments and we have a range of players that travel from all areas of Sydney to be part of the squad. To make this work from all perspectives, it takes a lot of commitment, enthusiasm and passion for the game from the players, their parents and our coaching staff. We encourage our squad to try new moves so they can gain confidence. In essence, they are young and learning, so they need encouragement to gain confidence and grow the long term skills to carry forward to their senior playing years.
What they learn:
- The technical foundations of soccer - This is very commonly overlooked!!
- Advanced individual skill with speed.
- When to use these skills and when not to.
- Both defence and attacking skills.
- Team play and positional skills.
- Quick thinking!
- Quick feet!
- Thinking 3 passes ahead.
- Finishing on goal. Etc, etc, etc...
The squad plays a game against a team every 4-6 weeks and this allows us to review their progress and achievements. This also provides the academy players with the opportunity to use their extraordinary skills, techniques and vision in a real game situation without the normal pressures placed on kids to suddenly play flawlessly. At this age, the players must be encouraged to try these skills and become comfortable with them in order to succeed in the future. The elite players are also given a home training program as it is impossible to reach elite levels without being able to practise on their own. This has the added advantage of increasing their confidence, time management and self discipline skills, which will help in all aspects of their future.
Selection into this Elite JETS program is something for young players to aspire to as it provides a stepping stone for future success in football through the developmental focus.
Selection can be achieved through recognition from JETS Academy Coaches from camps and other means with selection criteria being based on attitude, playing ability, will to succeed and also potential to succeed.
We are also open to running demonstrations at events, for schools and for soccer clubs. If your club or organisation is interested in a demonstration, please contact us.
